THE CREATIVE AXIS

Creativity drives positive change. Creativity is what I am passionate about when I allow myself to be. It is evident in all aspects of my life when I am feeling abundance. We create thoughts, ideas, projects, relationships, artwork, and ways of expressing ourselves. Creativity is by nature a positive force. It is defined as the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others. Creativity brings about something new and valuable.
This blog is my creative effort to journal my thoughts and share them with the world even if that turns out to be just my mind’s own street corner.
Creativity combats boredom and sameness, subdues passivity and uncertainty, engages the energy of fear and anger and transforms it into action. It is a spark of recognition, it is the kindling that fuels insight, and it is the flame that energizes us to prevail to completion.
In my work I have been able to help people with depression find a sense of meaning often through completing a piece of art. It is not the art piece itself but the process, the completion, the non-judgment, the knowing that anything, even a colored pencil coloring, can be a symbolic representation of living in the moment, acceptance, and achievement. It is an absurd idea in an absurdist world in which people who are suffering must fully suffer, people who are panicking must allow the panic to be there, we must meet our pain and embrace it. And then we have to realize that it is not worth holding on to that particular suffering. This is one creative process.
My photography has given me great pleasure and fulfillment over the years. It allows me to see things differently, to appreciate microcosms and to view the world through a variety of lenses. Travel has led me to places that have enabled a widening worldview.

Scribbling has helped me stay present amidst turmoil. Drawing has led me on a path of peaceful meandering. It is only when fear, judgment and comparison enter the fray that these activities become burdensome.

One creative project that I am planning for post-retirement is a seven-week trip to Europe to re-connect with friends and family while traversing and photographing London, Paris, Porto, Lisbon, The Lake District, Edinburgh, The Isle of Skye, and Glencoe. I am also considering making a documentary movie…more on this later.
