TO RETIRE AND TO INSPIRE
It has been several years since I made the decision to
retire early at 63. The date is now set for May 6, 2016. I have had a T-Zero countdown app running for the best part of the year but now I am below 60 days left and this
thing is becoming real.
I have worked at the same hospital for 31 years as an
Occupational Therapist primarily on the Psychiatric Unit there. I have led some
15,000 groups in that time and it has been my pleasure and honor to work with a
wonderfully courageous set of people. Additionally, the staff that I have
worked with has generally proven themselves to be a group of outstanding, caring
professionals, and warm, open human beings.
So why is retirement so important to me? Mostly, I don’t
like getting up at six in the morning every day and selling my body and my
time to what has become more of a corporate entity over the years. I am hoping
to find my own natural flow rather than succumbing to that which is “structured
upon me.” Who knows what lurks beyond?
I am getting ready to find out.
I have enjoyed what I've read so far. I will enjoy following you on your sojourn. Perhaps I will choose to put my feet in some of the tracks you have left behind. All the best to you as you pack your things and depart. AB
ReplyDeleteThanks Arnie. It will be a while before I go anywhere but I feel like this blog is carrying me to some interesting places.
