THE SCIMP PROGRAM
Work has offered me a structure and a purpose, a social
connection and a financial base. I walk to and from work, which constitutes
most of my daily physical exercise. There are many opportunities to be creative
and to encourage creativity in others. I have been privileged to witness human
growth and laughter among those who are in the midst of great suffering. I have
enjoyed conversations that have expanded the range and depth of my thought
processes. It is these things that I will miss when I retire; I have
consequently been examining ways that I can fill these gaps and find meaning
and purpose in retirement.
There are aspects of my life at work that will be hard to
replace. I have narrowed down five of these main areas that I am not prepared
to skimp on – hence my SCIMP program:
THE FIVE AXES:
S – Social
C – Creative
I – Intellectual
M – Meaningful
P – Physical
It seems that each of these is an important aspect of
well-being and health that I will have to address and attend to cautiously and
in a structured manner.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely site. Good use of photos and graphics. There is no doubt that you are a gifted writer. The site had much more content than you lead me to believe. I had no idea that you were a big Richard Thompson fan. Me too!

ReplyDeleteRobert,
DeleteThanks for your comments. Hope you stay tuned for further posts on this blog. I have indeed enjoyed a lot of Richard Thompson's finely crafted songs and strident guitar playing ever since the Fairport Convention days. By the way, that band used to convene at a house called Fairport to practice. That house is located just around the corner from where I used to live in Muswell Hill, the central location for my upcoming documentary.
